Sharks - We've finished our pop up books!

Posted: 23 October 2020

This week has seen the end of our first topic the Terrible Twits! The end of our topic was design and technology and how to make a pop up book. The children had to design their own book, using the different techniques they have been learning. They have learnt how to make levers and linkages.  The story part of the book is what the children wrote about in their best writes, which is a prank on Mr Twit.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic. Please see below for photos of the children with their books.

We look forward to keeping up to date with you with our next topic after half term.

Sharks - We have been investigating lever & linkage mechanisms

Posted: 16 October 2020

This week in topic we have been looking at different types of pop up books to get an understanding about how levers and linkages work, as next week we will be designing our own pop up books!

The children loved looking at all the different books and gave them some really great ideas to use in their own books. The photos below show some of the levers that the children designed. We did also make some other linkages and window flaps however we had technical issues with our camera so we don’t have photos of these, sorry!

Please log in again next week to see some of the children’s’ finished books!

Sharks - Learning about instructions

Posted: 9 October 2020

In English this week we are starting to look at how we write and use instructions. In this lesson the children were paired up and then given 5 cubes each, both had the same colours. The children had to face back to back then, one of the children had to construct a shape with their 5 cubes and then once completed had to tell the their partner how to build it without looking just using instructions. So for instance 1. First, take the blue cube and place the red cube on top of the blue cube. Next, take the green cube and place this to the right side of the blue cube and so on…

The children had great time however, I can not guarantee there was no peeking going on, haha!!
