The children in Reception really enjoyed sharing Pancake Day celebrations on Shrove Tuesday!

We talked about why people celebrate Shrove Tuesday by eating pancakes. We all thought about what we most enjoy eating on top of our pancake. We worked together to find out what ingredients we needed to mix up some pancake batter, and prepared everything we needed. When our batter was ready, we went into the kitchen in groups to fry up some pancakes. We also had a go at flipping some pancakes in pans. Some of us were very good at it!

When our pancakes were cooked, we could choose to sprinkle on some sugar, squeeze on some lemon juice and pop on some raisins. We all enjoyed trying the pancakes. We thought they were ‘delicious’, ‘tasty’, ‘bitter lemon’, ‘sour’, ‘sweet’ and ‘super good’!

When we had all finished eating, someone even offered to help wash up!

We also had lots of pancake-themed activities in the foundation unit to enjoy, including counting games, colouring, pancake playdough, pancake races in the garden and pancake role-play!

What a lovely way to enjoy Pancake Day!
