End of Hub groups for the year

Posted: 16 July 2018

The Hub groups have finished and we have had a great time talking about ourselves! We have focused on self-esteem this year; thinking about the things people like about us and what we like about ourselves. We’ve made biscuits, decorated sun-catchers to hang in the Hub, created some shaving foam art and made our initials from clay. It has been a challenge sometimes, to talk about the positive things about us, as so much of the time we can focus on the negative. We hope that the work we have been┬ádoing together will help us all have a more positive outlook as we move on to our new classes.

Spring term is over

Posted: 28 March 2018

We have had a great 12 weeks in the Hub with our groups. Over this term we have looked at friendship; what friendship looks like and the tools we need to be a good friend.

Our afternoon sessions start with a simple check-in to make sure everyone is feeling OK. We are really good at understanding other peoples’ feelings and trying to help them feel better if they’re not feeling great.

After check-in we usually do a craft activity together, which we’re all taking home this week in our files. This helps us listen, work together and make something that we can be proud of.

The rest of the session is taken up with games and free-play with a quiet activity at the end of the afternoon, before a drink and biscuit and sticker-sharing.

We have had a really great time together this term and hope that the tools we have now in our toolbox will help us with our friendships.

Friends in the Hub

Posted: 31 January 2018

This half term we’ve been thinking about friendship in the Hub groups. We’ve looked at how to be a good friend, working alongside one another and playing together. It has been a busy few weeks for us with foil-painting, funny portraits of our friends and some baking. We thought about helping each other, relying on friends, noticing good things about other people and using encouraging words.

The children enjoyed making the biscuits, so here is the recipe for you to try out at home over the half term holiday:

150g flour

100g margarine

50g sugar.

Mix altogether until if forms a ball. Separate into small balls (approx 12),place on baking tray and gently press down with a fork. Bake in the oven at 180* for 10 minutes.

We hope you enjoy making these tasty treats with your children.
