Sharks - We've finished our pop up books!

Friday, October 23rd, 2020

This week has seen the end of our first topic the Terrible Twits! The end of our topic was design and technology and how to make a pop up book. The children had to design their own book, using the different techniques they have been learning. They have learnt how to make levers and linkages.  The story part of the book is what the children wrote about in their best writes, which is a prank on Mr Twit.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic. Please see below for photos of the children with their books.

We look forward to keeping up to date with you with our next topic after half term.

Sharks - We have been investigating lever & linkage mechanisms

Friday, October 16th, 2020

This week in topic we have been looking at different types of pop up books to get an understanding about how levers and linkages work, as next week we will be designing our own pop up books!

The children loved looking at all the different books and gave them some really great ideas to use in their own books. The photos below show some of the levers that the children designed. We did also make some other linkages and window flaps however we had technical issues with our camera so we don’t have photos of these, sorry!

Please log in again next week to see some of the children’s’ finished books!

Sharks - Learning about instructions

Friday, October 9th, 2020

In English this week we are starting to look at how we write and use instructions. In this lesson the children were paired up and then given 5 cubes each, both had the same colours. The children had to face back to back then, one of the children had to construct a shape with their 5 cubes and then once completed had to tell the their partner how to build it without looking just using instructions. So for instance 1. First, take the blue cube and place the red cube on top of the blue cube. Next, take the green cube and place this to the right side of the blue cube and so on…

The children had great time however, I can not guarantee there was no peeking going on, haha!!

Sharks - Acting out a Twits Prank!

Friday, October 2nd, 2020

As you probably already know Mr and Mrs Twit play awful pranks on each other in the book The Twits. This week in English the children’s challenge was to make up their own prank and work together in small groups to act out their prank. They were given the props (printed on paper), a roll of cling film, a spider and PVA glue. The children had great enjoyment in coming up with their own pranks, from spiders in beds to putting glue on a chair! As you can see from the photos they had a great time in this lesson.

Sharks - Can you guess our emotions?

Friday, September 25th, 2020

In R.H.S.E this week we have been looking at different emotions and how they make us feel. We discussed how peoples faces change and look different depending on how we are feeling. We also discussed how we can help people with their emotions for example if someone looks upset we can go over to them and ask them what’s wrong and how we can help to make them feel less upset.

The children really enjoyed this lesson. Have a look at some of the photos that we took and see if you can guess the emotion the children are showing.
