Seals start their new LEARNING JOURNEY - 'Painting Places'

Thursday, September 17th, 2020

Today we had great fun starting our new learning journey.

It is an Art and Geography topic. The children will learn about how to become artists, especially painters; they will learn about the job of an artist and artistic skills such as drawing and particularly about painting… using a range of brushes, colour mixing and changing colour tone with white and black.  The Geography elements will be  specifically related to knowing, naming and comparing a location’s human and physical features. During the topic they will study the style of  landscapes from Van Gogh and also a local artist called Becky Bettersworth. At the end of the learning journey the children will produce a painting of a place that will be printed into a postcard, they will write about the Geographical knowledge they discover about the location on the reverse of the postcard. The printed cards will be displayed as a gallery, hopefully with a visit (possibly a virtual visit if not in person) from Becky Bettersworth.

Today the children learnt about what an artist is and that they they can improve their own skills by looking at the work of others. We saw a little of Vincent Van Gogh’s landscapes and had a go at using his bold brushstrokes in our own Starry Night painting.

SEALS have had a super start to Y1.

They have Daily set challenges in their BUSY-TIME play. What fantastic creative SEALS we have.

Look at all this lovely learning through their challenges….

Writing and forming numbers, practising letter formations, spelling red words…and it was all so much fun!

We are all so proud of their amazing settled start. Well done SEALS!

SEALS have fun with counting and forming numbers...

Wednesday, September 18th, 2019

We have made the most of our wonderful KS1 outdoor space recently; painting water numbers with correct formation all over the fences and creating colourful chalk number-lines, collected natural materials from the garden and practised really careful counting. We have also really enjoyed investigating though lots of fun activities what a number looks and actually feels like and had fun playing games where our friends had to spot the missing numbers in a sequence. What a super start to becoming Number experts!

Tragic Titanic Year 1

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

The children are all really enjoying our history topic ‘Tragic Titanic’ and have been so engaged in their learning about the events that happened on that fateful night over 100 years ago. We have looked closely at the areas of the ship and learnt about the different classes. We have even imagined being on the ship ourselves as a 3rd class child who sneaked into first class! We were using exclamation marks in our writing to show we were so surprised and excited when we saw the luxurious first class accommodation. “Wow look at that magnificent chandelier!”

Here are a few pictures of our work so far…
